The Summer of Fail

The film industry has been committing suicide this summer it seems.

With everything being released in 3D, films are becoming gimmicky and stupid enough without horrible writers and directors frakking (Yup, toasterhead) up franchises that have promise.

Jonah Hex could've been an EPIC movie. There were a number of problems with it, however.
1. It was written by Neveldine & Taylor
2. It starred Josh Brolin
3. Megan Fox was in it
4. It was 80 minutes long
5. He had chain guns mounted to his horse. THEY WEIGH A MILLION POUNDS!
6. Megan Fox was in it

So, ultimately, Jonah Hex was destroyed. This is something I'd expect from a Fox-owned Marvel movie, they seem to let Brian Singer and Brett Ratner direct them without so much as a single protest. But DC? Ahh yes, they too let Brian Singer in.. and look what happened. Superman. I suppose with the right ingredients, everything can suck, but why try so hard to kill Jonah Hex? I mean it opened to 5 million dollars! That's less than its superbowl spot cost!

Shyamalan has sucked for a long time, and yet people who were led to believe the sixth sense was brilliant kept giving him money to churn out inane film after inane film. That was all well and good when it was just his own private drivel he was churning out, but now he went and ruined a franchise people care about. I've never seen the cartoon, but god I feel sorry for the avid fans. I liken it to what would've happened had Sam Raimi been allowed to direct the Hobbit, as was often rumored back in the day when that movie was first entering development hell. Shyamalan has to go before he directs Masters of the Universe and ruins MY childhood.

A lot of movies have sucked this year. Clash of the Titans sucked, Last Airbender, Jonah Hex.. A lot I wasn't really interested in, the plague that is Twilight is still spreading..

Some movies were good, at least. Robin Hood was good, it wasn't as good as it could've been but it was decent. Kick-Ass was good. Iron Man 2 was good.

There is hope for the future of this summer though, and it lies with Angelina, Leo, and Sly. Salt, Inception, and the Expendables all look to me like they'll be good. Salt I know I'll like, as I love Angelina.

At least Thor comes out next year, I'll have to hang on that because with Joe Johnston helming Cap it's sure to be less than it could've been.

*sigh*
